Nigerian female athlete and world record holder Tobi Amusan has on Thursday defended the Diamond League 100meters hurdles title in a record time of 12.29secs, beating Gail Devers’ 22-year-old record of 12.39 secs. The United States Kendra Harrison and Britany Anderson of Jamaica both came second and third, respectively.

What’s more 
With this title, Tobi Amusan adds to her 2022 collection of achievements, including the World Record, World Championship, Commonwealth and Africa Championship titles.

  • Tobi Amusan on this day last year became the first Nigerian to win the Diamond League title in 12.42 seconds. By that performance, she set an African record.
  • The world record holder’s next race is set for 29th April 2023.

Tobi Amusan set a new world record of 12.12 secs in the women’s 100m hurdles semifinals at the Track and Field World Championships in Oregon.

The 25-year-old also clinched gold for team Nigeria and set a record time of 12.30 seconds in 100m hurdles at the Commonwealth games in Birmingham.
