Diana, Princess of Wales

Diana, Princess of Wales, commonly called Princess Diana, was born on the 1st of July 1961 to the 8th Earl Spencer. Although she died at a young age of 36, Princess Diana was famous for her activism and glamour, earning her the title of the “people’s princess.” She used her fame to draw attention to several humanitarian issues and philanthropic causes, and at one point was linked to over 100 charities. 

Princess Diana was a member of the British royal family following her marriage to Charles, Prince of Wales (now His Majesty, King Charles III). She is the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry. 

Princess Diana was fearless. She wasn’t afraid to defy one or two of the ethics, despite the British royal family taking even the most archaic aspects of their social traditions seriously. Princess Diana lived her best life, a pattern of living which made many regards her as “different”, seeing her acts defied the royal traditions. Owing to several controversies between Princess Diana and Prince Charles (now His Majesty, King Charles III), the duo divorced in 1996.

  • Princess Diana Picked Her Engagement Ring from a Catalogue
    Usually royals may not wear black dresses except to funerals. Princess Diana, on several occasions, wore black dresses to non-funeral events.
  • She wrote her own vows 
    The young Princess Diana made history when she wrote her own wedding vows and refused to mention that “she would obey Prince Charles.”
  • Princess Diana made her own clothes
    She went bold in wearing clothes that showed her shoulders and were above the knee. This was a major issue back in the 90s as royal traditions frowned against it.
  • Her sons went to public schools 
    By tradition, a governess homeschools royals in the palace. Princess Diana ensured her sons attended public schools.
  • Princess Diana wore red nail varnish
    She defied tradition by wearing red nail varnish instead of the customary pale pink, neutral.
  • She openly spoke about her marriage 
    Princess Diana spoke to the press about the issues in her marriage with Prince Charles. She mentioned her concerns of infidelity.
  • Princess Diana gave birth outside the home 
    She was the first royal to give birth to a future monarch in a hospital.
