With less than three months to the seventh general elections since the country’s return to democratic run, the Federal High Court has set up a special task force of Judges to try and hear all pre-election cases before it.
Driving the news
A circular letter by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, disclosed that the selected members of the task force would try the time-bound election cases due to the large volume of pre-election suits that are unattended to by the court at the moment. Also, the selected Judges have four weeks to complete the pre-election cases.
What this means
The selected Judges would attend to election matters including controversies surrounding a party’s choice of candidate, suit challenging the conduct of primaries, corruption claims, etc.
What you should know
Nigeria would hold its federal elections (that is Presidential, Senatorial and House of Representatives elections) on the 25th of February 2023. State elections would then follow two weeks afterward on 11 March 2023.
