The Ethiopian government and Tigrayan forces have reached an agreement to end the war in the northern Tigrayan region.

Following talks between the two parties in South Africa, African Union chief mediator Olusegun Obasanjo made the announcement.
According to a Belgian-led academic team, between 385,000 and 600,000 civilians died during Tigray’s two-year war as a result of the fighting, famine, and a lack of health care.
What you should know
An earlier five-month truce was broken in August, and government forces backed by Eritrean troops seized control of key cities and towns from Tigrayan forces. Fighting escalated in the coming months with Ethiopia launching an offensive and seizing key Tigrayan cities.
Possibilities of a Peace talk were strained by both warring parties preferring different mediators. They later agreed on an African Union Committee led by former Nigerian President- Olusegun Obasanjo

It is expected that all hostilities will ease, and that Eritrea will also withdraw from Tigray
