On Tuesday, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said that the commission will only release the timetable for 2023 elections when the National Assembly passes the electoral bill.

While speaking in Abuja at INEC’s first quarterly meeting with political parties, Prof Yakubu said that the Senate President has given his assurance to prioritize the electoral bill when the lawmakers sit after their recess.
He also said that the commission is pleased with the President’s decision to sign the bill if the direct primaries is adjusted. Prof. Yakubu explained the bill is key to preparing for the elections in 2023 and that the commission will release the timetable after the lawmakers decide.
