The Nigeria Governors Forum and the National Labour Congress, following a joint meeting in Abuja, have raised questions over fuel consumption by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

In a statement after the meeting, the Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo said, the joint bodies, NGF and NLC, suspect the figures presented by the NNPC. The statement quoted the chairman of the forum, Kayode Fayemi, saying that fuel subsidy is an ongoing conversation and that governors can provide solutions. The Chairman stressed that they suspect fraud in the distribution and consumption figures presented by the NNPC. 

The NLC president Ayuba Waba, speaking on behalf of his comrades, said that the government has dealt with the matters of fuel subsidy in secrecy. He added that the figures by the managers of the petroleum sector are conflicting. 

Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Dr Zainab Ahmed has disclosed on Wednesday that the Federal Government proposed N3trn in the 2022 finance budget. She said the NNPC initially set N443bn for payment of subsidy, which would last from January to June, but has now opted for a yearlong payment of N3trn.
