The Senate President in Tuesday’s plenary announced a letter from the camp of the People’s Democratic Party, nominating Senator Shuaibu Isa Lau (PDP, Taraba North) as the new Deputy Minority Leader in the Senate.
Why it matters?
Following a defection from the People’s Democratic Party to the All-Progressive Congress by the current minority leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, the PDP National chairman, Iyorcha Ayu, wrote to the senate to appoint Senator Shuaibu Isa Lau as the deputy minority leader.
During the plenary session on Tuesday, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, read the letter to the lawmakers. With this defection, APC senators in the Red Chamber stand at 70 members while PDP and YPP have 38 and 1, respectively.
Speaking of his defection, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha said he defected because of the isolation, division and fractionalization in the party.
