Africa’s top entertainment company, Multichoice, has in a recent presentation by its CEO Calvo Mawela, announced that the company has acquired South Africa’s Namola emergency assistance app for an undisclosed fee.

Driving the news
Multichoice is stretching its operations beyond the entertainment company into other industries by acquiring the emergency response app. To put in context, the Namola app is multichoice first non-entertainment related company purchase.

  • Multichoice CEO Calvo Mawela stated that the entertainment company with the acquisition of the emergency company is prioritizing domestic safety, which has continued to plague African countries.

How this would work
From October 26th, 2022, DSTV subscribers can pay for Namola app services by adding it to their regular DSTV payment. DSTV users will pay a yearly subscription from 29 South African rands ($2) for the solo package to 59 South African rands ($3.30) for the couples’ package and 99 South African rands ($5.6) for the family package.

What you should know
The Namola emergency assistance app grants users’ access to a network of emergency responders (private or public) for a variety of emergency services. The app further links the users to a vetted response team closest to their current location.

To request emergency medical services, users simply click the SOS button and describe the situation. The app then connects the user’s location to the closest and most appropriate emergency responders. Users can request emergency services involving crime, fire, accidents, etc.
