The Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye has announced the suspension of registration of sachet alcohol and glass bottles below 200ml.

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye made this announcement following the recommendation of a committee of the Federal Ministry of Health and NAFDAC back in 2018. According to her, the producers of sachet alcoholic beverages agreed to a 50% reduction in production of their products starting January 31st 2020. They also agreed to completely stop production by 31st January 2024.

Prof Adeyeye further stressed that products that are currently registered will expire by 2024. She further said that this measure is to curb the abuse of alcoholic drinks. NAFDAC assured Nigerians that its sworn duty is to ensure the health and safety of its citizens.
