On Tuesday 23rd November, the Deputy of Osun State, Benedict Alabi, stated that the state has produced its first gold bar.
Why it matters?
Osun State only last year constructed Nigeria’s first large-scale commercial gold mine. It projected 2021 as the year to begin the production of gold. This feat is now achieved as the Deputy Governor made the announcement in an event dedicated to the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.
He said that “Recently, Osun produced the first gold through the Segilola Project. The above-mentioned comprehensive and strategic mechanisms will ensure seamless and productive mining activities.”
Commenting on this achievement, the Minister for Mines of Steel Development, Mr. Olamilekan Adegbite said “If you add value to gold, it will create more wealth for our people, it will create revenue for government, it will create employment for our people.”
