There are reports of long queues in fuel stations at Abuja, Lagos, Niger, and other states as Pipelines Product Marketing Company recalled over 100 million liters of petrol imported into the country.

A statement released by Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) on Tuesday said that there was an increase in methanol quantities found in the fuel imported into the country. According to the regulatory body, this increase in methanol was above Nigeria’s specification.
NMDPRA in the statement said it is working with Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to take necessary actions as they have identified the source supplier. These steps included recalling the amount of fuel sent out into distribution, isolating the adulterated fuel, and stopping further distribution of inferior products.
Filling stations in some parts of the country have been shut because of lack of products to sell while others with fuel had long queues. NMDPRA in its statement further assured Nigerians that the safety of vehicles and equipment remains its top priority.
