Nigeria’s ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC), has again rescheduled the dates for the party’s House of Representatives, governorship and presidential primaries. 

Driving the news 
Mr. Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary while briefing newsmen in Abuja, announced that the party’s special convention and presidential primaries would be held on May 29th and 30th 2022, respectively. This is an earlier date from the initially scheduled May 30 and June 1st, 2022. 

  • The party also rescheduled the House of Representatives and Governorship primaries to Thursday, May 26th, 2022. 

What you should know 

  • INEC set a deadline of June 3rd, 2022 for political parties in Nigeria to conduct their respective primaries and submit their flag bearers ahead of the 2023 general elections. 
  • APC’s various screening committees have to screen at least 25 presidential aspirants,145 governorship aspirants, 351 senatorial aspirants and 1,197 house of representatives aspirants before the primaries at the end of the month. 
  • APC’s major opposition, the People Democratic Party (PDP) also scheduled its presidential primaries for May 29th 2022 at the MKO stadium in the federal capital.
