The aviation workers comprising associations and unions have announced the suspension of a planned strike action to begin today.
The Big Picture.
The aviation workers planned a strike action over unsettled issues, such as non-implementation of minimum wage adjustment of 2019 and non-approval of the reviewed conditions of service in the industry. Following a meeting between the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and the union officials, they reached a Memorandum of Settlement, which consequently led to the suspension of the planned strike action.
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting on Tuesday morning, Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, said after several hours of deliberations, both parties came to an agreement. He added that the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), would release a circular to all parties informing them of an implementation of the National Minimum Wage of 2019 adjustment.
He also said that those not in the service anymore would receive their arrears. Regarding the reviewed service conditions, the Minister said the issue would take time to address as it has been on for nine years.
