Reports from the northern part of Nigeria say that an explosion occurred in Aba Road in the Sabon Gari area of Kano State, killing many and injuring others.

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in the presence of the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mustapha Habib Ahmed, stated that the explosion which collapsed a building close to a primary school has so far killed 9 people.

- In viral videos appearing online, Nigerians were calling for help as they rescued school children and other injured people in what they claimed to be a bomb explosion.
- The state’s Commissioner for information, Mr Muhammed Garba on the other hand, has called for calm amongst residents stating that investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
- The state Police Commissioner, Samaila Dikko, while speaking in a video confirmed the incident claiming the source of the explosion was a nearby gas cylinder.
