The House of Representatives has condemned the recent reoccurrence of military coups in West African countries latest of which is Burkina Faso and Mail.

While speaking on Wednesday, Julius Ihonvbere representing Owan Federal Constituency, Edo State moved the motion to call for the condemnation of these actions internationally. Quoting the lawmaker on the official page of the House, he said that these events are undemocratic and, if continued, can return the region to the dark ages of governance.

Supporting the motion, House Minority Leader, Rep. Ndudi Godwin Elumelu, called on the leaders in the region to ensure that they deliver good governance to the people. Also, the Chief Whip of the House, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, stressed that “the worst democratic governance would be better than the best dictatorship”. The house passed the motion unanimously.
