On Monday, Britain’s Conservative party announced Liz Truss as the leader to succeed Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The 47-year-old, who would be just the third female to assume the position, defeated former chancellor Rishi Sunak by a 57% to 43% margin.

The outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in a customary act, would make the trip to Scotland to formally resign to Queen Elizabeth II. The newly elected Liz Truss would also travel on Tuesday to Scotland to see the Queen, before making her first speech in Parliament.

  • The 14th and 15th Prime Ministers would travel to see the 96-year-old Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral Castle instead of Buckingham Palace.

What to watch? 
Liz Truss, the newly elected Prime Minister, is inheriting a poor economic state rigged with heightened inflation. Truss promised to lower taxes and tackle the energy crisis, while economic analysts had predicted an economic slump and an inflation rate of 14% by the end of 2022.
