Justice Benson Anya, presiding over a High court in Abia State has fixed January 19th as the date for the fundamental rights case of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Why it matters?
IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is in federal custody for crimes tagged as acts of terrorism. He was taken from Kenya and has since had several court appearances. Through his Special Counsel, Mr. Aloy Ejimakor, Nnamdi Kanu, filed a fundamental right infringement which the presiding judge concluded a later date for his judgement.

The fundamental right claims are: a declaration of an unlawful search of his Abia state home, an unlawful arrest of Nnamdi Kanu in Kenya, a declaration of an unlawful torture and detention by Nigerian Government in Kenya.

It also included a declaration of an unlawful expulsion to Nigeria from Kenya by the FG, an order to restrict the Nigerian Government from taking any other action against Nnamdi Kanu, an order compelling his immediate release and an order of apology from the Nigerian government.
