The suspension of the social microblogging app, Twitter, has ended. Nigerians can now access the app without the use of VPN.

Why it matters?
President Muhammadu Buhari suspended the use of the microblogging app on the 5th of June 2021, after the authorities deleted a tweet by the President. Twitter said the tweet violated its policy.

The Federal Government in response said the suspension of Twitter was because of the wrongful usage during the EndSars protest. From that time until the early hours of 13th, January 2022, Nigerians could only access Twitter using VPN.

Announcing its return, Twitter said it is assuring the Federal Government that it would integrate diverse perspectives to ensure better service to Nigerians.

Twitter’s return to Nigerians is following several agreements between the Federal Government and the microblogging app.
