The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, Director-General, Ifedayo Adetifa has on Monday 29th November said that there are no known cases of the Omicron virus in Nigeria. He also says that NCDC and the Ministry of Health are closely monitoring the situation.

Why it matters?
Every country has been on red alert since WHO announced on Saturday that the new Covid variant, Omicron, is a “variant of concern”. Some countries have placed a travel ban on the South African region.

While speaking on Monday, Ifedayo Adetifa, said that this variant is highly transmissible based on the cases recorded already. He further added that, “The statement reads in part, “The FMOH and NCDC is monitoring emerging evidence on this new variant and its implication, to inform Nigeria’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The NCDC Boss has stressed the need for all Nigerians to continue to observe all safety protocols as directed by the Federal Ministry of Health.
